I'm assuming you did this cam upgrade yourself and if you don't mind me askin how much was it all said and done and was it worth it? I got 220K on my engine, so I wanna make it worth my time. I just put new timing gears on a while back, is there a way to get the cam out w/ the timing gear still on?
I run mine up to 4000rpms each day and many times a day. It's amazing that this engine still has all it's rods from the way a drive.(Doesn't take oil either) I had to replace my timing gears b/c I reved it to much and sheered them off just driving home as usual. That one on the cam is a PITA to get off and was in 4 pieces when I got done, so I don't wanna bust my newer one. But since you say I can get this out without the gear being removed on the truck, I'll try my luck with the press. I suppose you had to pull the radiator, grill, etc. to remove the cam right?
ok lemme try this again (got an error before). i removed the grill, hood latch and support, rad/condensor, intake, EGR, TB, etc...but urs will be easier since its older. also i jacked the engine up under the oil pan after the motoro mounts were off to get the cam out easier. i used the cam gear as a handle basically to guide it out. the cam slides out w/ the gear still on easy. just dont forget to line up the keyway up but u prolly know that.
PS: soak the lifters over niight and make sure to work them though in oil before start up.
