Hello! I have performed a complete timing job on my 2010 Fordf150, 5.4L 3v engine, 170k miles. Dropped oil pan and cleaned it. Replaced timing chains, tensioners, guides, and crank sprocket with Cloyes timing kit, replaced Cam phasers with new Ford phasers. Replaced vvt solenoids, cam position sensors, coil packs, new Melling 360 high volume oil pump, (oil pressure is great) 5w30 oil and Motocraft filter. After doing this, I crank the motor and get codes P0340 and P0345 (camshaft position sensor on each side. Engine starts, runs for a bit but real rough idle, then dies. I thought I did something wrong, so I did the timing again step by step. I still get the same codes after the second time around. I have good voltage to cam position sensors, and good continuity to PCM. I know I put timing chains on correctly matching the timing marks etc….I did remove camshafts and after putting them back in and putting timing parts in, then installed roller followers back in. But I still get these two codes, and the codes come back after I clear them, and engine runs rough. Not sure why. Driving me crazy!! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Terry.
internet search............. Code P0340 indicates there is a problem with the electrical wiring of the circuit attached to the camshaft position sensor. This issue can result in the display of a multitude of other codes that relate directly to your vehicle's camshaft. In addition, your powertrain control module (PCM) could also be damaged.

I’m having this exact same issue before and after completing a full timing job and new PCM that was recommended by the dealer.
Have anyone figured this out?

Just helped a buddy of mine with his 06 with the 5.4. Throwing the same code along with others. After doing plugs and coils the p0340 code was sill there and the truck still ran like crap.
replacing the sensor did not change anything.
the final fix was replacing the VCT solenoid. The screen had gotten torn and jammed up the solenoid.
not saying that this is your problem, but it was definitely our problem. Unfortunately the 2008 and up are harder to change than the 04-07.
