VIN Table/Chart

All of my books and manuals full of great information are packed away, so I need a little help. I need this VIN decoded so I can put a year on the title application. Bought the truck without a title, bill of sale only. Seller didn't know the year, and the B-pillar decal was peeled off, leaving the VOID watermarks. (Sure hope the truck isn't stolen)! She's a bumpside F-500, but not the '67 version. All I've done with it is tow it home, park it next to the shop, and weatherproof and tarp over the cab. She'll be a project for when I return from deployment. V8 engine, probably a 330. I didn't look for a decal on the valve cover. Maybe I'll do that later this week. Couldn't find anything of help elsewhere on the internet, so now I'm here. Your help is greatly appreciated.

F50CCG58369
WB: 156

Axle: Blank (Has a 2-speed rear)
GVW: 18000
HP: 164
RPM: 3800
DSO: 55 (Don't know what this is)

I'll get back to you later today. Looks like you have a 330 but I will have to check which version. More later.

F50 = F500

C = 330 2V MD FT gas V8 (has the 360 cast crank, FE 1/4" oil pump drive, possibly FE water pump)

C = Ontario Truck Plant

G58369 = 1970 numerical series, September 1969 production

156 = 156 inch wheelbase

7 = Shop manual says Medium Blue, MPC says Dark Blue

48
4 = Black Glendale/Kiwi vinyl
8 = Regular cab. (Cab and chassis vehicle, dump bed added by dealer or owner after production)

F504 = F500, 18,000 lbs GVWR

A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission

42 = Rockwell model D-100 single speed rear axle, 13,000 lbs capacity, 6.20 ratio (Since your axle was changed, you will have to look for the number cast in or stamped on the pumpkin above the pinion and on the driver side front for the Eaton Bill Of Materials info)
No front axle code? Possibly a holdover from not posting it for standard axles per '64-'69 practice. Should be a Ford, at least 5,000 lbs capacity, no power steering.

164 3800 = 164 Certified Net HP @ 3800 RPM

18,000 lbs GVWR

55 = St. Louis District Sales Office. The dealer ordered the truck through this office. It would have been bought off the lot from dealer inventory as no special order appears.

I'm moving you to Large Truck for more info if needed.

What wheels do you have? There is a risk of the widowmaker type--two piece. Locking ring wheels are ok.

Thanks!! Great info and exactly what I needed. And then some. Now I can complete and send in the registration papers. With the F-500's being the smallest of the medium duty trucks, was the 2-speed rear ever even an option for those trucks? I bought this truck because the guy sold it really cheap (again, I hope it's not stolen), and it will be really great at helping me maintain my property. I've got a 7.3 turbo and 5-speed transmission out of my old 96 that I was thinking about swapping in, along with swapping out the rear axle for a single speed, or disabling the splitter, or keeping and using the splitter. But I really don't think I will need a two-speed rear with the diesel, just the right ratio rear gears. In any case, that's a project for 2026, after I return from deployment and retire. The wheels are 6-lug steel wheels, no lock ring. Again, thanks for the info and thanks for the help.

If tube type, you almost certainly have widow makers. There's information in the Tech folder at the top of this forum.

Great info on the wheels. I've never had any experience with or even heard of those kind of wheels. I've worked with split-ring wheels on my light trucks and military trucks. Eventually swapping out all of my split-rings for tubeless. The Army has very few split-rings left also. Most of our trucks will have a two-piece bolt-together wheel and we don't even mess with them anymore. When a tire or wheel goes bad, we just turn it in and order a whole tire/wheel assembly. The defective unit goes to some Congressman's cousin's factory for repair. I'm not a purist, so if that's what I've got, I'll be swapping them out for a safer wheel. My parts donor '67 has the 5-spoke (Dayton?) wheels. Have never messed with that type either. Anyhow, good info and I'm grateful that you pointed that out to me. Thanks.

look for stamping or casting numbers on the rear axle housing and the differential ,to help in locating a more diesel friendly rear axle or differential .but maybe your transmission to be swapped in has a good overdrive gear ratio .
