Hello, My friend has a 60 ford truck with 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column and all original stock from ford. First time he washed his truck and happened to turn around and the starter engaged and was lurching going down the yard, he had the keys in his pocket. He was able to open the door and start it. He parks it on the street and leaves it in first gear so it dont roll away. been doing the same thing for 30 years. Gets up this morning and his truck was 3 doors down the street in the other direction. Neighbor said it was lurching down the street with starter engaged again. But this time going around in slow circles till it went up the curb and stopped. What the Hell. I am 72 and never seen this before. Thought maybe the red and blue starter wired shorted out? Food for thought. Any ideas as he may stop the midnite madness. Thanks
Well, if the ignition switch is original as you say, certainly could be worn out to the point it doesn't stay in place or the starting solenoid. Till he gets it figured out it might be a good idea to pull the ground terminal off the battery.
Spurredon, Well the guy from Mesa Az put a new solenoid on his truck and it was a no go. Told him its a new switch time. Said he will have to find a mechanic to put it in for him. Too hard for him to do, due to his health. Was able to do a push button switch and it worked. Good enough for him to drive.
