Became a new member a couple of weeks ago and have had some questions about my 1953 F100 answered already. Thanks to all who have responded.
In the late 50s to early 60s my grandad had a 1929 or 1930 Ford pickup. Sometime in the early 60s he sold it and bought this 1953 F100 pickup. In 1968 he passed away and my dad received the pickup. My dad drove it to work. Sometime in the mid 70s he bought a newer pickup and parked the 1953 in his garage. I told my dad that if he ever decided to sell it, I'd like to have the first shot at buying it. Around 1988-1990, I received a Christmas card from my parents, with the title to the pickup and a note "it's yours".
A close neighbor had a 1962 Ford pickup, so one summer we teamed up and did some body work and painted both of them. Neither of us knew much about body work or auto painting, but when we finished, they both looked fairly good at least to us. We didn't know that painting lacquer paint over enamel paint was a no, no.
I drove the pickup until around 1995. From then until late 2022 it sat out in the weather and was not started or driven.
This is a picture as it looked in the body shop (grill and bumper had already been removed). Yep, you guessed it, this time a professional body and paint job.
Finished paint and body work. Still have to replace the wiring harness for the tail lights, headlights and turn signal.
It has a flat head V8 (original), 6 volt system. I'm not a mechanic or body repair person, so I've had a lot of help getting it running after sitting so long without being started regularly.
Thanks for the re-introduction and the background story of your truck. They're always a little more special when there's some personal history involved, even to us. The truck looks great. Keep up the good work and enjoy it. Welcome to the forum!
Well not to say I haven’t tried Abe, kinda makes me mad even my new phone will not transfer it. I am on my I pad right now. It’s not a M4 that has something to do with it. Got hacked really bad in 2022. I think I've got a nice 55. Spent a few bucks. Just bought a new 12 volt Legion NAPA battery. Really hope to get her on the road this spring. Merry Christmas AJ
