Van mods?

I just bought an '04 E350 6.0.

I'm pretty good on pickup 6.0, and 7.3.

Some things I've read were that the van 6.0 was 'de-tuned' and had a smaller intercooler, maybe reduced piping and turbo.

Also, I don't see the same options for tunes as the pickup.

I have a spare SCT tuner (X3?) that I bought for a 6.0, but SCT doesn't list vans. Is there a difference?

Does anyone have any input or tips for vans?

Is there a better van forum?

Thanks!

More than the smaller intercooler, the van was detuned from the factory due to the smaller radiator. They can be tuned. I ran a 15 flat quarter mile in a 05 6.0 van with nothing more than a tune and the cat fell off in the pit area. Traction was impossible but man was it fun. The biggest thing to know is that everything that is hard to remove/replace in a truck is easy in a van and everything that is easy in a truck is darn near impossible in a van.

Thanks. I won't really be towing or racing, I just like the throttle response with a 40hp tow tune.
Do you happen to know if the canned SCT tunes play OK with the van?

I never tried. I was working for a tuner at the time so I had a couple of quick custom tunes put together. If it were me, I'd go ahead and try the SCT. If it doesn't work, you can always order a custom tune from someone.

I've read elsewhere that truck tunes don't play nice with vans. Not sure how much is operator error.
I'm going to get an EGT guage and a 40hp Ficm tune and see how it goes. That will probably be plenty for this van anyways.

Of course I'll also do the standard 6.0 supporting mods as well.

I'm getting ready to do a FICM tune, anybody else have any experience?
I'm trying to decide between an Atlas 40 or 80.

No plans to town more than 6k# (usually 0-4k#)
I have an EGT gauge.
