Intermittently, my transmission kinda clunks when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to 3rd. It seems to build up revs before it shifts. sometimes clunks in downshift too. It is funny that it does not do it all of the time. Sometimes I will stop and turn the engine off for 10 seconds. Mostly this does not help. It can do it right away or even after it has warmed up. I have had 3 transmission mechanics look at it. He put another ground strap on and that seemed to make it better. He put a new filter in it, replaced the solenoid, replaced the MIP ?? switch and service... Is it electrical - grounding, solenoids, TCM, ECU, ?? Regards, Guy
sounds like the trans is shot and there is enough junk inside it that even with a new valve solenoid pack installed that its still jamming up! did any of the work that you had done change it at all? did it change at all with new fluid?
IMO hard clunking is a lack of pressure build up for the valves to slip over, im no transmission guy but if you had 3 shops try a few things, why not just go get a used trans and send it out to be rebuilt and do the swap? not much more can be done at this point unless its electronic issue.
I should have mentioned that I did put a rebuilt trany in 2021.
IMo there are only a few dozzen GOOD transmission shops, most other shops are not good.
the good ones people are willing to ship freight to them and back.
you probably have a bad trans rebuild. a proper rebuild does not reused wear parts unlike most shops that if it looks good it goes back in. and let me tell you, parts that can look good can be trash. tolerances are CRITICAL in transmissions for them to not eat themselves alive.
here is the one i love, they also have a good YT channel. have them build one for you, it will be the last time you will have to worry about it. https://www.youtube.com/@PrecisionTransmission/featured
Mine was clunking and shifting hard until I replaced the processor for an engine miss (1994 E4OD)
Now it shifts fine (smooth) and there never was any trans codes in my old processor
I would assume your rebuilt trans is okay
I would have the dealer check the trans codes or find someone with a NGS to do it for you (you could also use Forscan)
Like I said, mine had no codes
Hello,
I also can not get codes. Can you explain the replacement of the processor for the E4OD? It is sounding good.
What part would that be? I am not familiar.

This is why i was saying that all the mechanics you went to were crappy hacks. if they are not scanning and then throwing parts at it... don't go back.
I assumed you had it scanned and that this was already an option that was covered. Now that i know whats going on... yea get on scanning it before you proceed further with more headache
I suppose I could buy a scanner, the other mechanics could not pull codes. Dunno if it would work for me
But from above , how would I specify a ‘processor for E4OD’. I am in Baja and will try to find one new or used.
I will still endeavour to get codes. Thanks
