My 2014 F250 instrumentation (Type 2, which does not give %) has been telling me to 'change oil soon' for the last couple of weeks. Last change was 12/7/22 at 122275 miles. Today (12/6/23) she has 126850, most entirely of very short to short trips, off road, and occasional trailering. I did expect to get more than about 5500 miles out the oil , but maybe that is not reasonable given the driving . Just wondering what your all experiences might be. I am wondering also if Ford is looking at dates in their algorithm. Running Mobil 1 All Synthetic. Have a Blessed Day.
Yes they use dates as well as everything else. 1 year is the max before the OLM goes to 0% remaining.
Correct.
And unless you're using synthetic I can't say I'd want to keep the oil in there more than 12 months as it degrades over time just from sitting. Synthetic does better but still...
Owners manuals typically state something like 3-5k miles OR 12 months, whichever comes first, to change your oil. Regardless of how many miles you put on it, it's been a year - I'd just change it and be done.
I have dealer change oil in fall, drive seven miles home and park inside for the winter. When I get it out in spring it says change oil. I just reset it to 100% and take back in fall for next change, maybe put 2500 miles on over summer. I don't start it in winter since no way to get it hot without driving on salted roads.

In the DRW truck that I used to pull my fifth wheel camper with I would just sent in a oil samples for analysis every year. Because, like most RV owners, I didn't use the camper nears as often as I thought I would, the oil in the sample below only had 4,000 miles on it, but it took like three years to get it there. I've since sold the camper (and the truck) because of how little they were getting used, but this oil sat for over three years and was still in excellent condition, so I'm not sure that just sitting really matters all that much. Perhaps oils of a few decades ago were more prone to deterioration from sitting, but moderns oils seem to tolerate sitting pretty good.
