Several times now I have had my engine choke on me and then die, after a 5 or 10 minute forced rest in the berm of the road it would restart, but I would be more than happy if I could get this last hurdle out of the way and have my engine run fine again!
What I think is happening is that when the engine runs between 2000 and 3000 Rpm the IP is drawing soo much diesel from the system the system can't follow and therefore the engine starts to misfire and in the end when I release the accelerator dies on me?
What could be the cause? I recently had to clean the whole fuel system due to a contamination, and I'm sure now it's clean. I changed the fuel filter (in the cleaned system ) two times with a new one. and the engine still does this.
To me the only thing I couldn't measure is the lift pump, I've seen that when it's running stationary it has some (how much???) pressure, when I pushed at the Schrader valve it sputtered out quite a bit.
But is there a tool with which I can measure the pressure? it should be somewhere around 5 Psi, and my tool for measure tire pressure doesn't even start at 15 Psi.
Or is there a way to have a fuel pressure gauge installed?
any advice much appriciated.
also check tank vent. when it dies, try removing the fuel cap and listen if it sucks air in, if it does, the tank vent is plugged and the engine is starving for fuel.

Sounds to me like it's fuel starved because of an air leak somewhere on the fuel supply side. I.e., it's sucking air.
It did two days ago when it leaked from the filter somewhere.
until I traced that leak to a bolt which ii installed in place of the brass anti return valve which also connects to the fuel return circuit.
When I replaced the bolt it stopped leaking there, but I had not jet the chance for a new test drive.
I was told to measure the fuel pressure, and I didn't know how to deal with that, because it will be more difficult if you don't have the right tools for the job, but.........
Anyway, I found how to measure the fuel pressure, and what do you think?
engine running stationary warm, 2,5-3 Psi.
When accelerating a bit the needle plummets to below 1 Psi.
hence the filter restrict light comes up every time running higher Rpm's, the IP is pulling fuel through the lift pump right?
I think the latter, I've gone through all lines, tanks, valves, filters and the only thing left was to measure the fuel pression, but as I said, didn't know how to deal with that.
and then I found a solution with a handfull adapters and so on :-))
But more important, when I didn't know no more, you all kicked me in the right direction, Thanks!
And you know what? Today My truck passed for it's traffic inspection or technical inspection or whatever you call it?
One more step closer to it's title and plates, or as they say here; Carte Grise, Grey card, the one who makes you owning this vehicle here in France legal, I've bought my truck in March 2005 only...
France is where bureaucracy is invented!, ask Napoleon...
