ping from egr?

ping from egr?
i have a 92 ranger with 2.3 and my problem is with engine ping.it pings WITH egr hooked up but when i unhook the vaccum line at the egr valve the ping goes away. i had codes 327 & 334 and then 332 so i replaced the evp and now the same problem .could it be the spring in the egr making the noise after the egr valve opens? i put a hand vaccum pump to the egr valve at idle and it makes the engine stumble so it seems to be working . anyone gat any info on this?

12-11-03 after replacing egr , evr, & evp with the problem still showing up i cleaned vaccum lines from supply to evr and then from evr to egr with wd-40 ( all that i had at the time ) and three days later the problem is almost completely gone . hope it lasts. thanks for the reply , looks like you were on target
