I've seen some vehicles that the steel body panels looked fairly good but the frame was literally rotted away.
The term was stupid in 2014, and it’s just as stupid today. It would’ve been stupid in 1944, too. I’m a huge fan of the F150’s aluminum body, but “military grade“ is a silly way to sell it because it means nothing.
I don’t think it ever did in this context. Think about the aluminum skin used an old piston aircraft. It was designed to be lightweight, not impact resistant, and road salt wasn’t even a consideration. You could make a pickup body out of aircraft skin and it would crumple with a shopping cart.
