HELP! intermittent engine problem

Hello, Ill give some backstory on the truck first. its a '74 f250 with a 1968 lincoln 460 engine swapped in it. The problem is it will be idling fine at about 800, or driving fine and then at a stop or idling it will suddenly fall to 400 rpm and barely running, and in that state the engine turns over faster than otherwise. so i have a feeling its timing related. what ive done is swapped the old unilite distributor with an oem one for that engine, and set timing to where it feels best with manifold vacuum engaged at idle. and I did check timing chain slop it looked like no more than a half inch or so turning the engine by hand.
Thats all for now i will update this thread as i mess with it, and i appreciate any help with this issue.

At what RPM was timing set? What is timing set at? What is curb idle? I usually set timing at 650 RPM with vac adv plugged. Curb idle around the same.
