I have an 88 f150. It’s been sitting for 8 days and I went to move it today, and checked all the fluids before I did. The power steering was low. It was barely on the dipstick. I topped it off, started the truck and turned it lock to lock over and over and I held it on the lock to work the pump hard. And no drips from the pumps high pressure connection, and no fluid coming down on the ground. Any ideas where to look beside the lines on the front under the engine? It’s kinda hard to trace a leak there on the lines because the front of my oil pan leaks so I may mistake one for the other. The power steering pump has been replaced with a reman motorcraft . I also know there’s fluid in the gearbox, where on the gearbox do I check? Thanks for the help.
Clean the area and lines down with brake cleaner and a brush, clean and dry. Run it for a minute, and then re check. It’s not good for the gear to hold it against the lock.
Failing that, run a little bit of dye in the fluid and check it again. Don’t run too long between checking. If it’s leaking it’ll show up.
I don’t hold it to lock often, I just did it cause the pump worked more, good to know though won’t do it again, thanks. I’ll see if I can clean that area soon it’s a disaster from the last power steering leak, it leaked a lot. I have to check all the fluids weekly, the oil and atf leak.
