When I load my camper I get a good amount of squat that aims the headlights sky high. Unloaded the level seems good. The owners manual states that the headlights are self leveling but this does not seem to be the case.
My truck is a 2023 f250 XLT with the sport appearance package so it has the LED reflector headlights.
lights. I do not have the load scales or the height sensors on the axles. There is a white plastic screw head behind each headlight which looks like a level adjustment but it doesn't want to move and I feel like I am going to break it.
Can someone enlighten me if these are actually self leveling somehow or the proper way to level these?
Well XLT certainly does not have the self leveling headlights, that requires Platinum or Limited trim. If you do decide to adjust the headlights be careful, they have been known to strip out or break sometimes on the previous gen. I would have to read the '23 OM, past owners manuals included headlight adjustment procedures.
Looks to be under the maintenance section of the OM "Adjusting the Headlamps".

They are a plastic gear mechanism and do not force them at all. I spray a teflon lube down into the gears if I need to move them and they move with ease almost no resistance. Many people have broken them.

Looking at the Owners Manual through the truck and also online there is no instructions, it just states that is has dynamic leveling and no adjustment is necessary. Maybe I will take it to the dealer and have them adjust it incase those strip out.

Ford and their documentation is consistently terrible

Let me give you some advice. DO NOT use a Philips screwdriver on those adjustment screws. Use the correct Allen socket instead. Usually they are 6mm I think. Far less likely to strip them out.
Would it make more sense to fix the squat instead? Otherwise if you are unloaded your headlights will be too low
Yeah I added a set of sumo springs to help and I will be adding upper stabil loads to engage the overload springs sooner. I do want some amount of squat though when loaded. I do not like the idea of adding air bags and eliminating squat all together because then the airbags are point loading the frame and not letting the springs carry the load as designed.
