Fuel pump leak

1997 7.3 powerstroke: My old pump was leaking from the weep hole so I ordered a new one and replaced it today. I hooked up all the lines got everything tight and fired the truck up to find that the new pump was leaking more than the old one. I checked all the lines again and everything was tight so I had someone start it up while I leaned over the engine and tried ti see where it was leaking from. And it appeared to be leaking from the hole above the weep hole. Any ideas or suggestions?

I just replaced my pump and most of the fuel system on top (resealed bowl, new hoses, new hose clamps, new crush washers at back of pump to hardline that goes to the head, new fuel restriction sensor, new fuel pressure spring, etc).

did you replace the pump with a Motorcraft? I purchased mine from Riffraff. Many on here suggested to only replace with OEM.

I suggest cleaning the valley well, dry it well, then start it up. There is 3 low points in the valley where it puddles, 1) below front of fuel bowl and Hpop, 2) at back of fuel bowl below the 3 hoses that connects fuel bowl to fuel pump, 3) below fuel pump itself. These low points are great to locate the areas of leaks and correspond specific parts that need attention.

When you say leaking above the weep hole on pump, do you mean the pump housing itself or where the banjo bolt connects? If it’s the banjo bolt, did you replace the 2 crush washers? Is the bolt tight? I know it’s a snug fit and hard to get a box end in there. I made modifications to my wrench to correctly tighten.

Notched wrench with grinder so I could get a better angle on tightening the banjo bolt. The notch slipped nicely around my deleted pedestal base to give me play to turn the bolt enough to get another bite on the bolt again after repositioning. Wrench is a husky brand.

I ordered the pump off rock auto. And it appeared to be leaking from the vertical hole in the side above the weep hole.

I have another new pump from o’rileys I’m going to try.

this is what the new Motorcraft one looks like. Purchased new from riffraff.

I pulled the old one I had out because of leaking and lower fuel pressure at higher rpm. The original owner said he replaced it prior to my purchase and I estimated it was less than 7k miles on it. It was a Carter brand.
