fuel pump leak

my old pump was leaking through the weep hole so i went to the local parts store and picked up a new fuel pump. after installig it i noticed it had a small leak at the fittings. i removed the fittings and put teflon tape of the threads. when i reinstalle dthe fittings i made sure they were tight (i kept thinking that maybe they were not on there well enough the first time). when i started up the truck the leak at the fitting was worse then ever. it looks to be squirting out from the upper fitting (the one that goes to the carb). i hooked up the lines the same way it was on the old pump. i read the in and out on the pump so the tank line is hooked up to the "in" and the carb line is hooked up to the "out". its still leaking. i was careful about installing the fitting so to not strip the threads. i checked it this morning and its still leaking. even when the engine is off it still seems to at least seep. i was going to get a new pump but i wanted some advice to see if maybe i'm missing something or possible did something wrong or if i just got a crappy pump.

The pump probably has a manufacturing defect. Exchange it. I had the same problem a few months back w/ a name brand fuel filter on a Toyota or Honda.

"Experience varies directly with equipment ruined" I have a lot of experience, In fact while gaining experience once way out in the boonies, I shall admit "Been there done that." I cracked the fuel pump the same way and was SOL for a replacement.
Cleaned it well and put the fitting back in gently with a little JB Weld. Let her sit overnight and it held and never did leak again. JB Weld. Don't leave home without it.
