1963 F600 decode and curb weight
Just bought this truck on an auction and needing to haul it home. Was wondering if I could get the vin decoded and if someone knows how much this truck weighs empty?
Thanks!!
F60 = F600
C = 292 2V Medium Duty Ford Y-block V8, 135 Certified Net HP @ 3800 RPM
K = Kansas City Assembly Plant
425156 = 1963 numerical series, June 1963 production
174 = 174 inch wheelbase
M = Corinthian White
F602 = F600, 19,500 lbs GVWR
81A = Conventional closed cab, standard (I do not have all the upholstery info)
J = Clark model 250V five speed direct transmission
F1 = Eaton model 13802 Two Speed Rear Axle / 5.83/8.11 / 17,000 lb. Rear Axle Capacity. (NOTE this info came from a decode on a 1961 F600--probably correct) NOTE SHOP MANUAL SAYS 15,000 LBS CAPACITY
No front axle code, so you probably have the standard axle of 5,000 lbs capacity, maybe 4,500. There may be numbers and info stamped or cast into the front axle itself.
19500 = 19,500 lbs GVWR
135 3800 = 135 Certified Net HP @ 3800 RPM
74 = Seattle District Sales Office
No special order
'63 and '64 use a hub-piloted widowmaker wheel. This is not particularly good....

As to weight, someone in your other thread estimates 8500lbs. Sounds about right depending on the presence of a hoist and other items.

The 17,000 rear axle as more commonly found in a F-700 chassis
17,000 axle has larger studs holding the axles in than the 15,000 axle but my memory is playing tricks on me has to what size those studs are
As for curb weight I’d add another 1000 lbs to that 8500 number, not sure what capacity that stainless tank is but 1 lb per gallon capacity was the recommended guessing weight for a standard steel tank back when I was hauling them. I hauled above and below ground storage tanks for 5 years, 250 gallon up to 30,000 gallon
A 10,000 gallon steel tank weighed 9500 lbs, add a pair of skids and straps to hold it in place and that 1 lb per gallon got real close
