Freshly rebuilt 351w. It’s running, but for some reason I’m hearing popping from the carb, seemingly when the engine gets warm. It sounds like exhaust getting pushed up through the carb. Timing is good and set. I figured out the sixth cylinder is causing the noise. Rods aren’t bent to the naked eye, and I tightened down the rocker arms a hair. Whenever the popping got worse, the truck ended up sputtering out. Where should I go next in the troubleshooting?
what is your timing set at? what ignition system does it have? duraspark or the newer I think it's called tfi?
if you think the 6th cylinder is the culprit, have you done a compression test? what does the plug look like on that cylinder?

He is the guy that just rebuilt his engine, it would not run, and found out his valve clearance is all off. He loosened the rocker arms and got it to run. I seem to remember I tried to tell him that would not work, and I think now he is finding this out. He most likely has a intake valve not shutting all the way and it's pushing backwards up through the intake.
