Hey guys, stupid question, I am getting my gates water pump painted and ready for install and I noticed a hole below the pulley, does anyone know what that hole is for? I put an arrow to it. I didn't see a plug in the packaging. Thanks!
it's called a weep hole and is designed to be like that.
pay close attention to instructions if they were provided. I only say this because i saw a note on rockauto for the airtex pumps. I do not know if yours will be the same but I've never experienced this with the pumps from riffraff.
They say that it is normal if a little coolant comes out of the weep hole for up to 10-15 minutes. the seal will fully seal after it actually running...something along those lines.
Otherwise when the pump starts to fail, it's common for it to leak from the weep hole
When the seal starts to get weak it will start leaking a little from that hole.
A lot of times it will go unnoticed until you start to see drips on the ground after it has sat over night, but will often will quit leaking when the engine is hot. Dried up white residue and splash marks seen around the underside of the pump (if you lay on the ground and shine a flashlight up) is a sign it has been leaking also.
