That step may be useful and handy and practical and all that. So would a step ladder welded to the bed. But like the stepladder, it will never look good.
It very much is useful. Like I said I wouldn’t trade it for a bed without one anymore.
when I had my 21 and they revealed the 23s I felt exactly the same way but not anymore after having one.
Different strokes for different folks as they say.
I figured somebody would make this because those steps are fugly. I think the cover looks WAY better than the black step. Combine that with a '22 bumper and maybe I could stomach the looks of the '23-24... maybe
My father had a 1971 F100 that had a tool box on the bottom of the bed on the side. It opened and was able to hold the tool box like a small tailgate. Maybe they could have made a step like that you can stand on.
I put lights in mine and use them all the time. Some folks were unimpressed and thought they'd be broken pretty quick, but they're holding up well, even with heavy handed (or footed) teenager boots stepping up there often.

that’s a great idea and I have had plenty of times I wouldn’t mind having extra light along the bedside in the dark.
I’ve thought about putting some in the rear bumper pockets and also adding a couple where you did might be a nice setup.
I actually like the step. Find it useful. Wish it didn't stick out like a wart on any color except black. Going to have mine coated in color matched “body liner”. It’s like box liner that looks like paint. Then I think will be great as it’s useful just don’t like it standing out so much due to color mismatch myself
it’s very practical and most people will like the step , just takes time.
Flash in pan business.
Just my opinion.
This. I'd be far more interested in a cap that replaces the front fender badge and makes it flush/matching paint. I don't know why every truck brand needs to add this fake chrome vent looking thing on the front fender.
I use them and the looks don't bother me. A best of both worlds solution would have been a step that was hidden and flipped open/close with your foot. I'm sure that was too expensive for Ford to do stock.

I believe it is a functional vent now. They made changes to increase the cooling capabilities. Some additional coolant lines and venting apparently.
Can any 2023 owner confirm that the gooseball and safety chains are within reach using the bed step? The step looks a little too far forward for me to unhook a safety chain and the bumper step is way too high to be useful.
I have a tool box so the step is functional. It’s ugly as **** on a white truck though. I’m going to paint match them.
The steps offend my sense of style and proportion... but I'll admit, they are useful as hell. I'm in and out of my bed alllllll day long, and they make life a lot easier... and don't get me wrong, I'm 6'2" tall with monkey arms. It would be nice if Ford offered them as an option... but Ford has shown us of late how flexible they are on spec'ing trucks... like forced 4WD, and automatic transmissions... but I digress.
