]I'VE GOT 2 QUESTIONS ON PAINT THEY ARE

2): WHAT TYPE OF PAINT DID FORD USE ON THE 1980-'86 F-SERIES PICK-UPS , WAS IT ACRYLIC ENAMEL OR LACQUER ENAMEL

Reason: Font Color
Who is doing the painting and is it PPG that they are getting?
The paint codes are on the sticker in the door jamb.
Now if the sticker is not there or you are changing the colors then it be best to look up the codes by year.
There was no such thing as Lacquer Enamel.
Lacquer then Acrylic Lacquer
Alkyd Enamel then Acrylic Enamel
Our trucks were done in Acrylic Enamel
All the above was single stage paint
The lacquers you had to buff to get it to shine.
If the paint was laid on right there was no need to "cut & buff" as back in the day you wanted some orange peel like the factory had.
If you made the finish glass smooth any scratches even washing the car would show up in the finish.
Todays paint finishes are harder and you dont have that issue like years ago.
Now once you have the paint codes, names of the colors can be different between brands so cant go by them, you might not be able to get them.
Be it Acrylic Enamel or base coat / clear coat (BC/CC) as there are no mixing codes for the old colors.
You might be going thru the color chip book for BC/CC for colors close to what you want.

Dave,I KNOW THAT THE PRESIDENTIAL BLUE WAS USED ON THE 1969 FORD TALLADEGA TORINO AND I THINK THAT THE COLONIAL WHITE WAS ALSO USED ON THE 1969 FORD TALLADEGA TORINO,MY QUESTION IS THEN WHAT PAINT MANUFACTURER DID FORD USE ON THE 1980-'86 F-SERIES PICK-UPS, BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO USE THESE 2 COLORS ALONG WITH ARCADIAN BLUE(WHICH PPG PAINT CODE IS:12854)

I should add that I did my truck, 81 F100, in Acrylic Enamel single stage with hardner using NAPA's bottom line of paints and was really happy how it laid down.
I was lucky that they found the mix codes for my 2 colors other wise I dont know what I would have done.
I also did not want the extra work of BC/CC it would be painting the truck 2 times. 1 the base, 2nd the clear.
Doing the painting in my garage and 2 colors it would have been painting it 6 times.
After a 4 year rebuild all I wanted to do was get paint on it and on the road.

Dave, THE REASON WHY I'M ASKING ABOUT THE PAINT CODE FOR FORD COLONIAL WHITE AND PRESIDENTIAL BLUE, IS I'M THINKING OF USING THE COLONIAL WHITE AS THE BASE COLOR AND THE PRESIDENTIAL BLUE AND ARCADIAN BLUE FOR THE 3-D LIGHTNING BOLTS FOR MY TANDEM AXLE MOUNTAIN MOTOR PRO STREET FLARESIDE PICKUP,IF I EVER BUILD IT
If you know the years and the car they may have been used on then I would hit the local auto paint store, the older they been around the better for color chip books, to see what the codes are.
I dont know what the factory used if PPG, Ditzler, Dupont, ETC.
Again maybe that is what PPG called the colors but the other manf. may have called it a different name with the same code and color.
That is why I say hit the paint store to see if they have the codes for that year car and go from there.
Dont be hung up by the PPG brand name.
When you get going on it post up pictures

Happy you got what you were looking for but as you pointed out that is the DITZLER number not the FORD paint code number.
I am pretty sure you cant take that DITZLER number to any paint supplier if they dont carry Ditzler to get paint in the right color.
All paint suppliers go by the manf. paint codes, Ford is on the door sticker.
Paint chip book also go by the manf. paint codes and why I pointed you to them and any one can look them up.
Well could as we are talking 40+ years since that code was used and stores can only keep records for so long.
Now the fun starts to find a store that has Ditzler paint and then has the mix codes to make it.
Good luck
