Front Axle Identification

Where is the fill plug? On the back cover or on the driver's side casting of the rear axle? Does it have the snoot sticking out inbetween the lugs on the wheels with the little bolts going around it in a circle? Or is it flat in the middle like a f150 rearend?

It is in a 1985 6.9 IDI (250 or 350?) with a 10.25 sterling rear axle as help to ID the front axle.
It may help to have a clean metal tag as I cant read any of it.

I see that now. He has only two choices for the front axle, either a dana 50 or a dana 44hd. He can look at the front GVWR on the door sticker. If it's above 4000lbs it's a dana 50. He can also measure the lockout hub diameter. If it's the same as a dana 60, it's a dana 50. If it's a extended cab truck, it's a dana 50. Otherwise it's going to be a dana 44hd
