Pinion seal's leakin'
Replace the pinion nut too or is that re-usable?
Breather tube was partially blocked...need to be checking that every oil change I guess. Cleaned that out real good and cleaned the seepage up and thought maybe it had quit leaking for a day or two, but nope. Still leaking. 100k since the axle was rebuilt including all the seals and I am guessing they didn't use the OEM Motorcraft or Dana-Spicer replacement parts and it just got tired from all the heat cycles over the summer. Oil needs dumped anyway, it's been in there way too long. Got a lube-locker gasket ready to go...Banks is taking their sweet time with their Dana 80 cover or I'd be putting one of those on too. (Not out yet but maybe next time.)

I don't think the shop manual says anything about discarding the big nut and I don't think this axle uses a crush sleeve either. I'll dig up the shop manual section and see what it says.
I also do not know that there is any benefit in an aftermarket diff cover.
However I do have a mag-hitech only because i like how it seals with an o-ring , has a drain plug as well as a way to check the fluid without taking the cover off.
If a person is buying because they think it helps keep temps cooler by having more capacity...that can go either way. Yes, it will take longer for the extra capacity to get up to temp but also takes twice as long to cool all the oil down. When I got my tranny rebuilt at BTS. I asked brian if it was beneficial to get an aftermarket pan. His answer was no for the reason I just mentioned.
With that said, oem diff covers/ pans; they have proven to be plenty sufficient as long as the owner keeps up on maintenance. Even with people that do not take proper care of things, they still do the job.
It's just a market that people fall for and I am guilty of this as well. Just my 2 cents
