Hello all, I'm Sean and I have a 1975 F-250 4x4. My grandpa bought it new in 75 and passed it down to me two years ago. I always loved his truck. I have the original "pencil and paper" order form and owner manuals too. Pretty cool. Truck was purchased in California, made a few road trips on the West Coast, and eventually sat for a few years when he was unable to drive it. My dad shipped it to me in NC after grandpa passed. I have the best intentions to restore but keep this truck as original as possible. It looks like a farm truck and I drive it weekly into town (5 miles) and occasionally to work 50 miles round trip. It came with the 360 but a few years later my grandpa, Dad, and cousin replaced it with a 390. I've had the carburetor rebuilt, new floor pans welded in, and currently having the seat reupholstered with SMS. I have a new bottom cushion (can't find replacement for upper), new weather seals to be put in, and some of the noise/thermal underlayment. The truck is a 4-speed and is two tone medium green glow with Wimbledon white. I've also ordered the three step POR15 products to get after some of the rust underneath. There is a piece of sheet metal that needs replaced but I can't seem to find it probably because I'm not sure what to call it. To visualize, if you put your head into the front wheel well and looked towards the front of the truck, it's right there. I'll probably put a more detailed description in a different forum thread to see what you all have to say. Kind of a long intro but I've been using this site and finally made an account. I retire from the army next year and hope to spend more time at home working on restoring this truck. Thanks to all for reading and I'm happy to be here, Sean Deer guard was made by Grandpa's brother before a trip to Alaska.
Welcome to FTE, as far as the rusty item, are you on the dvr or passenger side when you stick you head in the fenderwell? If it is the passenger side that is a common area to rust due to the battery being right there. And it is either the metal inner fenderwell or the radiator core support. I hope for your sake it is just the inner fenderwell. Easier to find and replace.
Is the rust in the red box area? Those are called inner fenderwells. You can see the passenger side has rust from the battery. The radiator core support is removed in this pic.
Or on this piece that is painted black that is called the radiator core support? Is the rust in the red box areas, or along the very bottom edge?
How is Ft Bragg (Liberty) these days? I went there TDY a lot, but was never stationed there.
Nice rig & welcome to the dentside forum, you'll find plenty of help to answer any questions you may have & we have pretty sizeable vet population in here too so there's alot of camaraderie.
