I was having a heat issue the thermostat was staying in the low my whole ride home from the other side of lake superior so i changed the stat and there is still no difference except now i have zero heat coming out of any vents.
If you have one of those temperature readers, run the engine for a while to the point it should be at temp, best to just drive it for 10 minutes or so. Then point the temp reader at the upper radiator hose right by the thermostat housing. It should read around 190-210 depending on the weather where you're at. One of them cost me $30 at harbor freight if you don't. Did you test the thermostat before installing? Is it a 195F thermostat?
Just an FYI... Next time you are in the cold / cold situation put a piece of card board across the front of the radiator, drive in comfort and watch the temp gauge to see if it comes up.
No heat whatsoever out of the vents after the thermostat change means most likely just low on coolant
See if you get a little heat going around corners or on and off the gas
That will slosh the low coolant around in the block some and the water pump will send some hot coolant to the heater core
That is one test to verify if low coolant is the cause of the lack of heat
Good luck
If you installed a failsafe thermostat
Sometimes the first time they open they will stick open (that is the failsafe portion) (the little tab that holds them open when over extended) (overheated) which happens once in a while as the coolant burps
I do not run them for that reason

Yep. I tried one of those years ago. It lasted less than two weeks.

Another fun things with these trucks is the little hose running from the pump to the intake. Check that. Since they pull hot fluid from after the pump and not before like many cars if that hose or the little tree is damaged that can cause a lot of heat issues also check the vacuum lines running to the heater box. look on the far left corner of the engine compartment you'll see a little solenoid with a vacum line. check that line. its the blender control. those can get stuck or lose vacum and end up blocking all air from the cab.
