Which nanny do you think intervened and saved the day? I don't know if this is where stability control would have kicked in, so if it was traction control, the extent the computer can do is cut power to the slipping wheels and maybe apply brakes, the braking would be useless if the surface doesn't have enough traction and the rear end goes side ways with the pin weight of the 5th'er.
I think it applied trailer brakes. I was reaching for them but the truck was quicker.
My bet is the trailer anti-sway control kicked in. I'll be putting some XDS2s on when real winter gets here. Price tag is scary enough for Halloween though!
I had some Toyo Open Country AT/2’s that were pretty scary on wet roads. No wet traction at all. I have stock Michelin LTX or whatever the stock Ford tires are, and they are glued to the road in comparison.
Thank goodness, I'm glad that you are safe. Problems can arise when you are expecting tech to kick in, and it doesn't. I know people who eschew the tech in various machinery and circumstances for that reason. Also being prepared for the situation when the tech fails is always a good idea.
So trying to figure this out is consuming me. Could my Michelin XZE tires on the rear be a poor choice in wet weather? Would a more aggressive rear tire be better?
I looked at the tire, they are lacking in the sipes dept.
I think you might have just hit some oil, as you stated you weren't speeding and well below the posted signs, which are usually very conservative on corners.
So I talked to the tire shop where I bought the tires. They said they have sold tons of sets with no complaints but also that Michelin cares a lot about their reputation. They had me call Michelin to get their take on it. They told me they wanted to do a goodwill warranty exchange so I could get a different set of tires and be happy again. I was blown away. I am going to go with XDS2's on the rear and Agilis HD Z on the front I believe. I'll let you know how it all works out.
Little over a year ago friend of mine got a new F150 after waiting forever and a day for it. The truck had blue cruise. Traveling 70 mph down the highway and came upon a turning lane, the truck freaked out, made a hard right and before he could do anything, he was through the ditch, ramped a fence and rolled several times before coming to a halt in a revine. His back is screwed, but has recovered from broken ribs, pelvis and right leg. Technology is nice when it works but I do not trust it. Sad fact is, too many we share the roads with do trust it. It’s almost like more “drunk drivers” on the road. Never know when the computer/modules decide to “pass out”. Stay safe out there!!!!!

I personally don't think it was any of the nanny controls kicking in, he said it was a smooth spot in the pavement so it sounds like his slipped through that spot and got back to a textured spot where the wheels had traction but he is thinking the truck magic'd him some traction out of a slide

Is this any different than the person driving down the road swerving while looking at his/her phone, or whatever else is distracting them? Or the drunk or impaired driver, or the driver who hasn't slept in 24+ hours? I can guarantee you there is more of that on the road than computer modules "passing out", I see these acts every time I'm on the road. Are they perfect now, no, but if you're honest with yourself its likely closer to perfect than the human errors you see when driving.
If it had just started raining, then that is the time it will be very slippery. The rain water brings the embedded oil to the surface. At least that's what I've been told.
.
Here in Florida, we refer to that as "black ice" and it is very real.
So just an update, they installed 6 brand new Michelin Agilis HD Z tires today at zero cost to me. These new tires have a lot more siping compared to the XZE's. I was blown away Michelin did this, even covered mount and balance. $3576 when all was said and done.
