C6 Transmission Stack Question
Attached is a picture of the inner ring gear sitting on the forward drum, which is sitting on the drive drum.
Everything is seated perfectly, air checked and within tolerances on the oil pump, thrush washers gooped and in place.
In the background you can see the forward pinion with thrush inside the sun shell, waiting to receive.
The problem I'm having is once I turn the drive drums sideways and start trying to slide it into place, I wind up with a gap.
It feels like the last friction in the forward drum as it's a very tight fit.
I've spent two days trying to set this assembly in place.
The only position I haven't tried is with the case pointing down as I'd have to weld up some kind of rig to hold it all just right to jack the oil pump with drums into place.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to get it done.
I've watched videos, but have spent hours trying to seat that last .074" on a horizontal plane and am finally making a callout, looking
for a tip or trick that will work.
Thank you in advance.
Lines up perfectly when vertical, but lose the fit when horizontal.
Then made a jig and stood it on end to set the ring gear through to the oil pump because I couldn't get the foreword and drive drums to stay in place while trying to feed the pump.
It's stiff to spin, but doable, until I tap the inner shaft into the pump, then I can't move it without pliers.
Not sure how much effect the weather is having, but the garage is only heated when I'm in there, otherwise it's been low 30's to mid 40's.
I'm sure the assembly lube is getting viscous.
Noticed ice on top of outside shaded puddles yesterday.
I've read about other folks having issues with new bushings that fit before placement, then won't fit after.
Think I'll just try light sanding.
Otherwise won't get any end play.
