A great technical description follows...

Well today I found out that the "hockey pucks" that the radiator support rests on/bolts to is shot I have no idea as to what they are really called. If you know what I'm talking about, do you know where I can find some? Or at least tell me what they are?

Thanks

Ford considers them as a body mount insulator, and that position is considered the #1 position. They offer them thru some of the aftermarket vendors. You can also get most of them from Ford, as they are still being used on current production trucks.

He has a 65, it's listed at the bottom of his post. Also he's referring to the round rubber disk which the radiator support sits on. They are also under the front and rear of the cab. They are about 3-1/2 inch dia and 1-1/2 inch thick.

Always glad to help out a fellow Ford truck owner. I've sold a million of these mounts when I worked in parts.

Good luck "going out and getting a set or two" -- Check here (proforma, as that's what pays for this forum), but I don't think they have them. I think Dennis Carpenter makes them, though several places have the sets. I'll warn you -- they are nasty expensive for what you are getting. Bout $50 for the set.

You can order the individually from the local Ford dealer. That's if they have anyone who can read a paper book or microfiche. It gets frustrating going and all they want to do is look up parts for 1980 or newer on the CPD system. ( computerized parts display) That's why I keep a complete set of my own parts books to give them the part numbers.

I made mine out of some conveyor belt I have. It took a little tweaking, but it was low buck for sure. A couple of cuts and some flat washers and I got the body lines to line up fine. It doesn't have the sleeves through the middle of the rubber, but that wasn't important to me. Everything bolted up solid and I think it will last for years.

Thumbs up

ZombieSlayer,

If you go to "Henrys' Parts Dept ", like Barry suggests You will be able to buy 1, or 2 or 3 or 7 or 100 [they'll have to oder 100] Buit point is you do not have to buy a whole "set" (s) like you will from aftermarket suppliers. So each mount may cost a bit more, but you can get only what you need/want.

Also, Dave made his from some material. I have made support core insulators out of tires, the same way. Plus I was able to stack them so as to have them act sort of like "shims" to realign fender & hood margins, etc.

And like Barry also said, when you're at Henry's Parts Dept, try to get a "Parts Person" who can read technology rather than a technology operator who happens to hold a job in a Parts Dept. If you get my drift there.

Also as Barry Said, they're called Body Insulators, for the #1 position, and #1 position is under the radiator support core.

I like to think my 20 years in parts when looking up parts was fun is paying off. I hate to see others get burnt by the aftermarket when if you need one item, you don't have to buy the whole set. To anyone who's fixing up a old Ford, I recommend a set of parts books. It's worth the investment. They're great in showing how things go together, especially when you have a brain fart!!

Well I actually do need the set (both sides). The passanger side is warped (dunno how) and the drivers side is stripped.

Any easy way to take these off? I haven't really looked at taking them off yet. I tried to find a pn in my parts book...gave up

There's no easy way to change them. Try penetrating oil on the bolts. You may end up cutting them to get them out. I would try to get new hardware if you can. It will make re-assembly easier. Make sure you put back the same amount of shims on each side if you find any in there. Take a look at the rest under the cab to see what condition they're in. Do the fronts and then as you can replace the others.

There is a peice of tube down though the "pucks". This, the frame and the pucks are likely rusted rather badly together. Are you trying to replace the radiator mounts without taking the whole core support, inner and outer fenders off?

I don't think that is much of an option. Probably need to do some serious dis-assembly. Once the radiator (or "core') support is off, you can just chisel the old ones off, sandbalst the frame, repaint and re-assemble. This assumes the core support is OK, which in my experience is quite UNlikely if everything else is rusted together the way you describe.

I keep on sounding like a pariah here, with bad news about the cost, availability and ramifications of bad radiator core support mounts -- but I have been there, so just reporting what I know.
