I have a 2012 f350 with the 6.2 with 223000 miles on the clock and the truck has been flawless since I've owned it until the other evening. My check engine light came on and the truck still ran fine for about a day or so but I went to pull out the other evening in traffic and got on it a little and when it switched from 3rd to 4th gear it fell flat on its face so I pulled off the road and tried giving it some throttle and it just sounded like it was flooded and was barely firing. After doing thus for about 2 minutes it leveled out and took off like nothing had happened. I immediately pulled the codes and it's showing a p0430 catalyst below threshold on right bank. Could this be the cause of the sputtering or something more serious? Also now on a cold start it fires and sounds flooded for a split second then levels out high idles as it should and is fine while driving. I made an appointment to get new plugs plug wires and coil packs but any input would be great. Thanks in advance
Thank you all for the replies I'll definitely look into some more in the forum.
if it does end up being the cats has anyone had any luck with doing a true cat delete straight pipe on these trucks. I priced them ar 2700 and just cant see wasting that much money on something that's not needed
You would either need ForeScan or some other programming software to turn off the rear O2 sensors, or find some 'emulators' to fool the computer. Unless, of course, you don't mind your check engine light being on. Otherwise there are probably 'off road pipes' available, intended for use off-road, or you could make your own if you're somewhat handy with a cutoff wheel and a welder. Get some exhaust pipe the right size, cut the cat out, tack the pipe in place, pull the unit and weld, then reinstall.
I went in and checked every code it had and that was the only code that was on there. It was on there several times some permanent and others pending but I suspected to find misfire codes as well but did not. Around a year or so ago it threw a code for cylinder 8 misfire a couple times but hasn't thrown any other codes until now.
Don't look for misfire codes. You want misfire counts in Mode 6 or "onboard monitoring."
The two are very different and found in different areas of your scanner.
That said, I'm not sure your symptoms support a likely finding of misfires, but if a few cylinders have high counts and the others are zero I would hone in on those cylinders
So a little update. I'm yet to get it into the garage but the truck is now to the point in will barely stay running at an idle until warm. Once warmed up it idles fine but after it drops rpm from the initial high idle it will miss and sputter and at one time stalled clear out. Could this be the fuel pump?

That doesn't sound like fuel pump to me. Perhaps ECT or maybe something with HEGO circuits. I'd be curious to see some live data.
I thought it may be the MAF sensor because when I opened the hood I saw that my air filter box wasn't latched on it was just hanging there. I should also state that none of the missing or idling problems started until I had the alternator replaced. I'm trying to get into ford to get diagnostics on it. I'm just at a loss especially when the truck has 225000 miles on it I wonder if it's even worth fixing.
So the problem has gotten worse and I was able to get a video on it. Just replaced the purge valve before taking the video so I can rule that out. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Hey I don't suppose you ever found out what the issue was with that truck? I've got one doing a similar issue and it also threw cat codes on both banks. Thanks!
