GM side terminal batteries

I've had two of these strip out the threads on the terminals this week. And no, I'm not overtightening them. One was on a friend's pickup, and he put locktite on it. There's got to be a better way than that. Have any of you guys had this problem, and know of any good solutions for it?

They do make a device the relocates the posts to the top and a device that converts those terminals so they will mount on a top post battery.

TBM has the right idea. It seems a little stupid to me to put the terminals on the side. It was like that on my Grandma's Olds, and that makes it really hard to jump start.

What I ran into though were the side post terminals corroding and coming out of the battery. I'm not too sure how many still do that.

I'd say 80% of the the GMs that came into our shop at National Tire & Battery had stripped out threads on the side. It's just way too flimsy - very soft metals being threaded together, it's almost impossible to tighten it without overtightening!

I'll take top post any day.

The other thing is people do not lay the terminals flat against the battery and then re-insert the screw to clamp it to the battery. Instead they use the screw to bring the terminal to the battery, which causes problems. Of course, the biggest problem is side terminal batteries, a stupid idea and even worse in vans.
