2008 F250 was all fine, then sat for five weeks. Go to start, completely dead. Wouldn’t jump, charged overnight still nothing..mostly. The courtesy light comes on but no door buzzer. Turn the key and the only light on the dash that comes on is the seatbelt light,no crank at all,the stereo light comes on slowly as does the passenger airbag light. Nothing else. So i had the old battery checked and it needed replacement,so I put in a brand new battery….still nothing,or the same as before.I’m thinking maybe the starter but that shouldn’t affect all the electrics. Aarrggg.Any suggestions or ideas, anyone? Not even sure where to start looking. Thanks in advance for any tips.
99 F250 7.3 Diesel
I had similar issues a year or so back. In the end, after all the frustration, it turned out to be a dirty cable clamp & a dirty post to go with it, SERIOUSLY. On my 99, there is a triple bank of relays attached to the firewall behind the radio area. One of them is the Low Voltage Relay. It monitors the voltage supplied to the PCM on start-up. If the incoming voltage is too low it cuts the power to the PCM and it'll never start. And, that low reading could be just under 11.7 volts, iirc. My suggestion would be to clean the cable clamps inside & out. Put two fresh batteries in it. Go from there.
If you put it on a charger, everything should light up like a Christmas tree.
From watching a youtube video i hopefully narrowed it down to a bad ignition switch. I was able to jump the contacts under the starter relay and it cranked over. Swapping the relay itself made no difference. Also checked the related inside fuse and it was fine. I ordered one and we’ll see what happens when it’s replaced. I will let you know how that works.
Update:After nothing seeming to work,i ordered and received an ignition switch that took a week or so to arrive. I take it out to the truck and when i opened the door, the door bell thing was chiming like it should(it wasn’t before). So i tried the key and vroom,i’ll be damned if it didn’t start right up. Friggin thing fixed itself!I’ll take the win.
It is possible that you've got a wire going bad somewhere, so I would still check everything over to make sure. You'd hate to be out somewhere, shut the truck off, and have a repeat performance of this issue.
