How good or bad are 2017s

I recently lost by 2012 F250 to a fire as told in my thread in that trucks forum. As I'm waiting on insurance to settle of course I'm shopping for trucks. Depending on what I get from insurance I might be able to stretch to some of the cheapest 2017s. I'm wondering if it's worth it. I doubt I will be able to afford an 18 or newer. Obviously I'm nervous about getting the first year of a redesign. I'm also looking at gas xls so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. TIA

The people I know who have had them for a while all love them.

17's are terrible, you look at them wrong and the tires fall off!

They really aren't like a total redesign, just the cab really, engines and trans are proven performers, really no worries in buying one so long as it has been taken care of.

I'm currently driving a 2017 F250 that I've had for 3+ yrs now. It had 61,000 on it when I bought it and now it has 95,000 on the odometer. It was clean when I bought it and it's still almost as clean with a few modifications to it. I have the 6.7 liter diesel in it and change oil every 7500 miles and fuel filters at 15,000 miles. Just changed the air and cabin filters and everything still looks good. Tires have 35k plus miles on them (Nitto Terra Grappler G2's) and everything else is pretty stock except for the leveling kit. I had a MAF sensor fail about a year after I bought the truck but it was covered under warranty and I've replaced the batteries on it. If you find a good clean fairly low mileage 2017, jump on it. They don't last long. Good luck on your hunt.

I recently sold our 2017 F250 with the 6.2. Was a great truck, never had any issues with it in over 100k miles. As long as it has been cared for properly I wouldn’t hesitate buying a clean 2017, especially with the gas motor. Pic of it just for fun…

Probably won't be able to get super low miles but I suspect just about anything I get with under 200k should have a lot of life yet.

I have had a 2016 6.2, 2017 6.2, 2020 7.3 and now back in a 2019 6.2. , all F250xl. The best one was my 2017. The matched 6r100 tranny to the 6.2 along with the improved torque curve over the 2016 really makes for a great truck. You won't be disappointed. I hope you find a nice one.

I’ve had my ‘17 6.7 diesel for 2.5 years, towing a 17,000lb 5er. Other than a bit of corrosion on some wires from the numb-nut that owned it before me riding around without a fuse box cover - it’s been excellent. That problem was quickly corrected and it’s been a strong and dependable tow vehicle ever since. I keep it tuned up, change the fluids and love it. I bought it at around 74k miles and have 97 on it now. We put 2500 on it over 6 days going from Bend, OR to Rapid City, SD, and down here to Athens, TX. Love it.

Good luck!

My 17 was 5 years/70k miles when I traded it, other than brakes only issue I had was a bad U-Joint, replaced under warranty.

Bought a 2017 F350 Powerstroke Super Cab new & now have 114000 miles. Love it! Love driving it! When I made the purchase decision I was a little concerned that it was the first year after a major revision but I ordered it anyway because I didn’t want to wait any longer. Worked out great, didn’t have any problems you would associate with a first year revision.

Have any of you driven both a crew cab and a extended cab for any significant amount of time? Which do you prefer? Me and the wife do not have kids so there will not be child seats involved. There will be dogs though. It will not be really a daily driver for me as I work from home and also have a little econobox that gets a lot of my miles unless I need the truck. The main reason I have a truck is stuff like home depot runs, dump runs, pulling the camper, and pulling the tractor if I need to take it anywhere plus a fail safe vehicle if we need to get somewhere in the snow. I'm pretty sure I need the long box though as I want to be able to tow the camper and put a rhino in the bed.

CCLB FTW!!!

Seriously tho, longer wheelbase rides better, but makes wider turns. Personally I hate the EC setup, that I have to open 2 doors to get into the back is a deal breaker for me. And I love having the long bed, I've only ever had 1 short and I doubt I'd buy another. JMO.

I may be a little biased but they are great! I’ve had mine for over 5 years and only one problem I’d consider Ford’s fault. I’m dealing with the issues that come with normal aging and miles. It’s been a great truck. Nothing to be afraid of on one that’s been cared for. You can still find some with decent miles.

An upside on the earlier ones is they have enough history most of the likely problems or woes have been identified and there are solutions available or they’ve been repaired or upgraded.

Many consider the 17-19’s to be the most desirable of the newer generation of SD. I get asked if I want to sell it all the time, which I don’t.

Best vehicle I've owned and I've owned many. I had a driver side leak and tailgate recall. No other major problems. I get hill descent control errors once in a while but it goes away when engine is off.
