I just turned over 250K miles and I couldn’t be happier with my truck. It’s given me very few problems over the years.
Recently something strange has been happening. I believe it happens only at idle. The rpm’s will surge as if I’m blipping the throttle. Sometimes the increased engine speed will stay increased, sometimes it drops back to normal immediately. The rpm’s haven’t gone over 1,000 that I’ve noticed. Usually the increase is a few hundred, maybe up to 700-850. It does it when the transmission is in both Drive and Neutral.
If I’m at a red light and it starts acting up I will put it into Neutral so I don’t accidentally bump into the car in front of me.
Once I’m on the throttle intentionally the symptom stops completely.
I also notice it happening more when the temperature outside is hot. Not sure if this means anything because it’s always hot here in DFW.
Any ideas?
