This sounds like a connection/ground issue. Remove the wiring to the starter, make sure the parts are clean with no corrosion, and reconnect.
If that doesn't work, pull the starter enough to turn the motor shaft a bit and reassemble. Testing for a dead spot in the starter here.
So I dug into this yesterday. Cleaned everything reinstalled starter. Nothing. Added a ground from the starter to the Frame. Nothing. Got a new starter and installed it with the ground wire. Nothing. Added a ground wire from the battery to frame. Started right up. I guess I need to find the ground wire to the frame and clean that up. I bet the old starter was fine.
I had a similar issue a few days ago. Turn key - lights on but no crank. No nothing. I was about to start digging into it until I remembered a similar problem shortly after I bought mine about 8 years ago. The shift lever was really sloppy and wouldn't register in 'P' so I had to hold the lever up with my left hand while cranking with my right. It has just started loosening up again enough that it's doing it again.
