96 f250 460 engine. Truck is not getting full power when starting. Will not crank. Sometimes the solenoid clicks. Battery is good, even tried a known good battery from a different vehicle. Cleaned all the connections and grounds that I could find. Can't see any broken or chewed wires. Couple of days ago, I cleaned the solenoid connections and the truck fired right up. Thought it was fixed. Tried starting it today, acts like the battery is dead again. Sometimes the headlights are bright and sometimes they don't come on at all. If the solenoid is bad, would that cause the rest of the accessories not to work? I can't find any reason for the truck not to start.
If the fender mounted solenoid(relay) or the starter mounted solenoid is bad, neither one would cause the other accessories to not work.
Your problem still sounds like a dirty connection. Are you sure you properly cleaned the battery cable posts and the insides of the cables where they connect? I remember the first time I experienced this problem I thought I had cleaned those connections good and I was sitting dead in the water until one of my neighbors cleaned the connections properly.

I'm going to replace the terminals. They are old and ratty looking. Can't hurt.
Don't replace your cable terminals with the 'clamp' on style you find at the auto parts store. Those leave drivers stranded all the time and cause more problems then they fix. Replace the entire cable with one that has 'swaged on' ends.
