Hi friends , I’m a new member 1st time classic truck owner. I have a 1965 ford f-100 , and the solenoid has a rapid click when trying to start I also have a new starter and battery . I have even taken off to have checked they shows there good I changed the cables and also put in a aftermarket key switch , still no crank, no start will someone tell me what might be the problem. Thanks for any advice given
Sounds like a dead-ish battery, or bad connection. Mine used to do that intermittently b/c the battery cable was poorly attached to the battery clamp. I'd jiggle the cable, and it would crank just fine. I finally fixed the problem correctly.
Since you have a new battery - check the battery clamps and make sure they and all the other connections are clean and tight.
I'm going to add another vote for dirty/loose battery cables. Undersized cables, bad ground, loose connections anywhere between the battery, solenoid, starter.
Thank you all, it was driving me ,no where after going over the checks again making sure
things were tight
and cables clean . I happened to loosen up the starter to see that it binding although I could turn the motor by the crank bolt. I think that I might have to shim the starter. The transmission was removed since the last start I just hope the flywheel is not bent and the
torque converter were fully seated.
again I really appreciate your help.I’ll give you an update later this frozen morning.
