Hello, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted but all has been well with the truck. While checking out a minor fuel leak I found a mystery wire from near the fuel filter. It’s got two wires coming out of the loom that go to the fuel filter, one up top and one below for the water in fuel light. It looks like the wire was plugged in somewhere at one point but I couldn’t find it. It’s a plain black wire so I thought it might be a ground wire for the water in fuel light but I may be wrong. If anybody knows where it’s supposed to go I’d appreciate telling me
That looks like the fuel heater wire. It would plug in on top of the fuel filter. Often the o-ring for the fuel heater goes bad, then people pull it out and plug the hole.
The fuel heater isn't necessary for most climates.
Thanks, that just might be it but there is still a wire plugged in on top of the fuel filter right next to the air relief valve. Maybe this loose one was the ground for it?
My bad, the truck is an 88 and here are a few more pics of the fuel filter. I have the same wire on bottom going into a threaded stud, but then one on top and one loose
Just curious, but what does the low fuel pressure sensor do to the truck if it’s triggered? When my fuel line blew and I was hemorrhaging fuel I didn’t notice anything new. Granted my red engine light has been on since shortly after I got the truck, I wouldn’t have noticed if that’s all it would do
it should trigger a fuel filter light on the dash ( not the water in fuel light ), it's a vacuum switch, if it detects a vacuum because of low fuel pressure it triggers the light on your dash,
That’s odd. When I took my gauge cluster apart a year ago I went in and replaced all the light bulbs in the dash to make sure they were good and I didn’t notice any fuel pressure light or symbol
