Just wanted to know if anyone has this problem or there might be something wrong with my truck. When im driving down the road and i hit a bump the fron end seems to feel a little spongy. Maybe im not used to the truck but comming from the Expedition i thought that the ride would be alot better. Dont get me wrong i think the truck is a dream to drive but every so often you hit a bump and this happens. Is the front end of the Excusion supposed to be this way and if so is there something i can do to fix this? If i install a front swaybar will this help? Thanks for your help on this
You didn't say what engine you had as the PSD weighs about 400 or so lbs. more than the V10 and seems to bottom more easily even though it's springs are uprated accordingly.
As far as spongy is concerned, I guess I would like to have a better description of what you feel. I would say that you are hitting the bumps stops (very easily done on these trucks as we only have about 3/4 to 1.5" of travel till it hits.) But I have wouldn't really describe it as spongy. So, I just want to make sure...
New (read:better) shocks shocks help. Ranchos, Edlebrocks etc.. Look in the forum, as many are mentioned.
I have the V10. Yes it must be the bump stops. I didn’t think of this Thanks!! . If I upgrade the shocks would this help this feeling? I guess what I’m looking for is to get the ride to be a little smoother when hitting the bumps. The rear end is fine its just the front.
Also I was wondering if you ever heard from anyone else about a noise from under the driver seat it sort of like a tinny popping noise and it only happens when you are turning or going slow over bumps. Sorry to be so ignorant about all this.
Jetfixr, it won't be until the '03 models come out that we will see OEM fitted sway bars (rear) and those, from what I understand, will only be on 4x4 models.
___________
As for the noise...check the body mounts & sway bar links for excessive play or movement, as those are usually the main culprits.
You want a real smooth ride? The Lincoln dealer is next to the Ford. If you want a smoother ride check into the shocks I mentioned. Keep in mind that there are more than that in use by present Excursion owners.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-02 AT 03:15 PM (EST)]Shocks are a start. Is this a 4wd? Try Timbren Load boosters. If you are interested I have the part number. I'm not running the part number listed at their website. Ride is more like a stock F-250, firmer with more control, no bottoming. I'm also running Edelbrock shocks and a Pro-comp steering stabilzer. Oh yea, noise under seat, probably cab mount or sway bar end link.
The noise under your seat come from de track of the seat when they need to be lube (electric seat lifting adjustment), use a spray silicon lube and it will fix the problem. To confirm it on your vehicule pull up and down your seat whit your hand and you will ear it.
Thanks for all the help i will look into the track under the seat to see if that is causing the problem. But i think it is comming from under the cab. No it is a 2WD truck
