I found my right tailgate bumper loose over the weekend and saw that the pin that holds it in place was damaged. Where might I find one of these retainer pins?
I purchased a kit of assorted plastic trim retainers from Harbor Freight. I ended up using one of the Christmas tree type. I had to trim the diameter of the head to fit in the recessed hole. Seems to be working.
I recently replaced the same. The parts department at my dealership said Ford doesn't sell that retainer separately. I ended up buying a new bumper for $16 or $18. Kind of ridiculous but I just wanted to be done with it.
This is what I’ve used. Quick and cheap. No dissimilar metals in contact so corrosion shouldn’t be an issue. Fits 1/4” hole and hasn’t come off again. Best part is it’s removable, small slot screwdriver and you can back out the wedge.
When mine went, checked with dealer and had to buy bumper to get rivet, was Cdn $30.00 + tax.
Should be able to get at hardware store or Home Depot.
I removed my tailgate bumpers on both my Superduty trucks. There is no noticeable difference with the spray-on bed liner. I don't have to worry about finding them when they fall off any more.

Same here. They didn't touch the tailgate, plus passenger side kept falling out, so I did a tailgate bumper delete.
I opened my tailgate to find the right side bumper laying in the bed. I looked at the other side and discovered that bumper was gone. My younger brother has a 2018 F-150. We opened his tailgate and he had one in place and one completely missing. After looking at the Ford parts cost and the crappy plastic rivet they used to hold them in place I headed to Amazon. I found these "on sale" for $13 with 1 day shipping:
They are EXACTLY like the factory units - except they moved the L and R letters on the rubber. I compared mine to my brothers - they definitely have a different contour to them. Not sure why Amazon says they don't fit my truck because they are exact replicas. I bought the plastic rivet two pack at Home Depot for $1.24. I had to trim the plastic rivet head with a pair of wire cutters so it would fit into the rubber bumper. It is much sturdier than the original rivet. I threw the new rivets they shipped with the bumpers into the trash. No more tailgate rattle when off-roading or on rough streets.
