Was out hunting this weekend, all doors worked fine. Get home and the drivers side, extra cab door will not open. Feels likes something must have broke. Neither handle feels like it’s pulling on anything. Any ideas?
They are operated by cables. The ends of the cables are plastic where they go into there mounts and eventually they all break off. You can buy aluminum ends you can put on the cables to fix them.
I also just used cheap ebay ones. But that was back before the Amazon days when I did mine. Good luck getting the doors open to change them if they already broke. That's the hardest part. lol
I did this fix, mod, improvement quite a few years ago because both the cables were broken on my truck when I bought it. I also rerouted the cables and secured them to the internal panel in order to give them a more secure movement range. Instead of the entire cable moving around, only the metal slide cable inside the sheath moves.
A few years ago, the passenger side failed again, but there were bigger problems so I bought an entire new mechanism for the door. The driver side has been good since initially fixed almost a decade ago.
Based on the link below, looks like I was pretty excited about these back in 2016.
perfect freaking timing... thanks OP i was just getting ready to ask the same question as my passenger side died 3 days ago. thanks to @Tpayne621 for the answer. and as always thanks to @Sous for your valuable insight as well.
on order: we improvise, we adapt, we overcome. (aka screw you plastic parts) next it will be the friggin blend door for crying out loud.

I did something similar to mine. For me it was the driver's side that went out (first). I bought the cable ends and that fixed it for a while. Once it stopped opening again, I said "screw it" and bought a brand new Ford assembly. I think it cost around $100-$150 3 or 4 years ago.
Couple of years later the passenger side failed. Looked at the Ford part and it was now $200-$250. So I decided to try an Amazon special assembly for ~$60. It "works" and has been working ok ever since I put it in, but you gotta ****** on the handle pretty hard to get it to open, and it also won't open until you've pulled the handle through almost the whole range of motion. Whereas the driver's side with the new ford assembly opens after barely pulling the handle and it just feels better.
So if you decide to buy the whole assembly and money isn't an issue, I'd spring for the Ford brand

I betcha that can be adjusted. Sounds like there is slack in the cable before it takes up the lever. Bicycle brakes have adjusters for it, need to slip in a split section of vacuum hose at some point to take up the slack in your setup.
Part of the “adjustment “I found is the loop the oem cable makes. Sometimes it’s held in place with a clip like in my van side door. I suspect it’s similar to the back door on a super cab. Mine wouldn’t work right until that loop was in the right spot.
These were the fix. A bit of a PITA until I could get the door open. Of course it was the cable end for the upper cable, so cable on backside of mechanism. Got it done and works great now. Thanks again.

@T-wood Thanks for the link. I learn something new every day. I am tempted to preemptively replace my cable ends now.
Trust me, do it before the originals break it is such a PITA to get the door open when they break. you have to contort your arm like a snake to get it down, back, and into place...then two hours of screwing around trying to figure out which combination of pushing and prodding to get it open. hint, get the top loose first and have a friend pull out board slightly to keep the top from re-latching. took me about 5 hours total to do both doors. and I never want to have to do it again.
