My hood decision, maybe

We checked this out at the Supernationals in Sieverville. There were two red '56s, parked side by side, built by the same guy, with this set-up. Linear actuators to raise and lower the reverse tilt hood(s).
One of the owners was kind enough to demonstrate it for us. The pivot/hinge mechanism was different on the two. One had pins for pivots while the other had actual hinges. This is what I'm going to do on our Panel. Anybody done it? Got any tips? Thanks.

Any idea on how they latched the hood once it was lowered?

No. I wish I had thought to look at that. I don't remember seeing any latch mechanism. Wonder if they just trust the actuators to hold it down?

I hope that's not the case... gravity may help but I wouldn't trust it. An electric latch that gets activated when the actuator is powered would work well.

I'll be sure to incorporate one on ours.

Apparently there are no latches on these.

Getting that to line up perfectly when it is closed would be a real trick.

I'm not familiar with the actuators but if v they are gear drive, they definitely won't lift when not using a latch

That's what I was thinking.

I think those actuators would get in the way trying to do anything under the hood, worse than the complaint about how little the hood opened originally. Forward tilt hood has its limitations anyway and only correct the hood from shifting at the original hinge location..

If the battery is under the hood area, how do you open the hood if the battery is dead?

you install one of these hidden so you can connect jump cables
I use these on my trailer winch so I can use the truck battery and when I loan my trailer out no one can use my winch since there isn't a battery on the trailer

Been thinking about replacing the gas struts on my ROH with those, but the struts work so well I keep saying why? I'm using a mini bearclaw latch recessed into the cowl and cable operated from inside the cab, on mine.
