97 7.3. Gonna be putting together my first e4od rebuild. Everything ready for install. My question is once I’ve installed my rebuilt tranny what is the process after install? Just fill it and run it or??
Put 8 quarts in the trans. Run the engine for 1 minute. Not 2. Shut it off and add 6 more quarts. Start it again and then fill until the dipstick is in the right range.
Thanks for the info. That’s what I was looking for. Somewhere in my reading saw something about partial fill before fully filling fluids but couldn’t recall exactly.
Installed transmission I rebuilt. Ats rebuild kit and transgo hd tugger kit.
After getting fluids in the hash marks and shift lever controls aligned transmission will not shift out of first. Reverse and drive work but it won’t shift. I pulled rear fluid line off while idling and it’s flowing atf. Idk what good flow is though. It’s not coming out like it’s high pressure but it’s flowing out. I swapped shift solenoid back to old one just in case that might be issue. My insight cts3 shows that it’s in P no matter what position shift lever is in and also when I drove it a couple hundred yards to test.
Not sure if electrical issue or pump issue or if I failed on some internals. I lean towards pump/torque convertor or electrical issue like the range position sensor. I’d be grateful for any guidance on what to look into next.
If the tramsmission data says you're in park, then the PCM will never command any shifts.
First and reverse will always work though because they are hydraulically controlled through the manual valve (the valve the shift lever hooks to in the transmission).
You need to figure out where the problem lies there.

is the position sensor on side of transmission a possibility?
Ok. Thanks. I ordered a new motorcraft range sensor. I’ll try that out and inspect wiring. Wiring harness was exposed for almost a month while I’ve been rebuilding transmission. Sensor was also exposed unplugged.
