Installed new range sensor and that fixed issue. Now that I can drive my truck I have a couple issues I’m experiencing with my rebuild. It’s shifting too firm from 1-2. If I drive modest it’s not noticeable but any amount of quicker accelerating and it’s pretty rough. Rest of shifts are very smooth. I’m thinking it’s possibly just an issue that may be solved by modifying the hole sizes possibly removing extra plate that came with transgo hd kit. I think that drilling size as instructions state for diesel may be too aggressive. Idk. Just thoughts.
main issue I’m having is with reverse. From start up reverse is good. If I drive and then put in reverse it’s delayed and shudders. Doing some back and forth tests it seems to not do it from park to reverse but does do it from drive to reverse. Thanks for any suggestions.
Reverse issue is likely an internal fluid leak. Yes, sucks to even think about that, I know.
Cold fluid is more viscous and will "seal itself" better than thinner warm fluid that will readily flow through an imperfect seal. It's akin to 7.3/6.0 high pressure oil leaks and hard/no hot start problems.
What was your low reverse clutch clearance? It's critical on these and pretty notorious for delayed reverse...but won't cause a slipping condition by itself.
I’m not sure on clearance for reverse clutch. This was my first attempt at any transmission rebuild. I did measurements but seems likely I failed to get reverse tight enough. Would something like this help to get by for a little while? https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2102-he...tor-sleeve-kit. It’s a valve body modulator sleeve upgrade that supposedly doubles capacity/pressure. Or is there a better short term option?
I really won’t have time to pull tranny and address clearance likely til spring time but a quick draining and valve work easy to fit in. Thanks cleatus.
