OK so I haven't bought a lot of vehicles new, preferring to save money and find that cherry slightly used one for a lot less.
The last vehicle I bought new I screwed up and didn't take it in to the dealer for every little thing that was wrong while it was covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty, and let a big issue slip by while it was still covered under the powertrain warranty. Live and learn.
So what I'm asking you guys is to list what problems you have had with your Super Duty's that you have taken to the dealer to have fixed under warranty. A simple list is fine, maybe say whether they fixed it or if for some reason it wasn't covered.
I hope to raise my awareness so when my new F250 PSD has issues I get it fixed right away.
Specify the model and engine in your post.
1. Cam position sensor (left me stranded at a quicky-mart)
2. Turbo oil leak (oil on bell housing and tranny inspection plate),
3. Replaced intercooler rubber hoses with new updated material and hose clamps (had visible residue on hot side)
4. Loose connection on high pressue side of power sterring pump (ATF on frame, visible from drivers side wheel well)
5. Fan belt replaced (had a persistant squeak, should've replaced upper radiator hose with a dual alternator one at the same time, but didn't)
That's about it! These are for my 2002 F-350 PSD
Now at 49K I believe my rotors are warped, but it's my problem now.
1. Alternator pulley bearing squeal - dealer replaced alt. with new one and everything is good.
2. Stripped the 'jack retainer' screw. Seems like the stud would sieze up in the hole, and with my superhuman strength, i'd strip the plastic head off the stud! - Dealer fixed TWICE, and it's stripped again! (I think this only applies to SuperCabs who's jacks are stowed under the rear seat.)
3. Rattling front hubs - dealer replaced both hubs but for some reason used ESOF hub ***** (Lock & Auto) when i've got a non-ESOF (Lock & Free) truck! My hubs have gone south again, not disengaging, and then sometimes engaging by themselves! Warn Premium replacements are on the way.
4. Body mount noise - Horrible creaking when the truck is flexing over steep driveways, or off-road situations. Dealer tightened all body mounts back in September and noise went away..till yesterday!!
That's about it...I've had some other problems but they were. . .eh how do I say this. . .created by me. Compared to other vehicles I've owned, this truck has been pretty problem free! The main two problems have been the alt. bearing and the hubs...the latter I'm sure I had a part in since I spend quite a lot of time off-road in the sand & mud.
steering looseness over speedbumps/potholes. dealer found all four front u bolts/nuts loose. re-torqued, no problem.
body mount squeek when frame twists, nothing you can do about it, but not a big deal.
reflashed-just got best milage ever! i drive it hard, and fast... hit 80mph every day, and go from 300' to 4000' twice a day. 17.26 mpg, which really is insane, if you rode with me, you would understand why.
new front rotors at 22,000 miles and pulsing badly again at 34,780 miles, dealer sucks for sure and I am dreading going back again but will do it on my return from vacation. 2002 5.4, 4x4 supercab 250, other than that, no problemo
Lost the alternator at 31,600, replaced under warranty.
Minor oil leak - turned out to be a hose clamp not tightened to specs at the factory.
That's it. It's been a great truck so far.
