I’m still in the process of fixing up my newly acquired 97 F-250 HD (CCSB, 4x4, 7.3L auto, XLT). It came with one factory key fob and two keys. Only of of the keys can sorta open the passenger door, otherwise I’m stuck with just the one clicker and the keys for ignition only.
When looking up parts, I see there are two part numbers for replacement door locks (anti-theft and non anti-theft). Can anyone tell me how I can determine if my truck has anti-theft or not? Alternately, I have access to a ‘95 bronco XL that’s being parted out. The steering column and door locks are all available. I know the steering column swap is a bit of a project, but would that be a viable option for keeping all keys the same and would that work if my truck does have anti theft?
Lastly, do I need a factory key fob or can aftermarket ones be used? I’ve seen on this forum that they can be programmed at home but I want to get the key situation worked out before I risk messing up the programming on my key fob. Any guidance is appreciated.
If you have working theft light on dash, you have theft. There’s a black or blue box under dash.
also, with theft, the door locks have theft device on the key tumbler.
theft vs non theft does not matter on key tumbler, I have swapped mine, are the same afaik.
I purchased two remotes off eBay, there is a process to link them by jumping a plug under dash to program
95 and newer you program the key fobs just by cycling the key on and off rapidly a few times (5 times in 10 seconds)
After which the door locks will lock and unlock indicating the truck ready for programming of the remotes
94 and earlier you need to find the brown wire take out in the main loom
The thicker key with the chip is PATS
95 is pin short under dash. And 97 should be 8 koeo bumps in rapid order. For new fobs. Not 100% on the 97. In the bronco it's the 2 pins. Might have to start your motor and turn it of and back to run. For anyone searching.
