'01 Expy check engine light

'01 Expy check engine light

I need a little help guys. A friend of mine called today to tell me that his wife's check engine light is on ('01 Expy). The problem is, he is out of town on business. I was on the way to work, so I couldn't look at it. This is all the info I have so far. It came on while the engine was warm, and it has not flashed. I had her check it while I was on the phone, it comes on solid with the ignition, no flashing. This isn't much info, but I want some direction before I go over there tomorrow. Any ideas?

Have her go to the nearest Autozone, or any other place that will read codes for free and find out what is setting the code. Let us know what it is, and then we can take a step in the right direction.

Code indicates malfunctioning EGR valve.

EGR replacement isn't very difficult with normal metric tools and not real expensive. You could do it yourself. Search this forum's archives and find how to tips. I've never had to replace mine so I couldn't tell you exactly how, but it's easily accessible on top of the engine.
