I'm not going to claim any expertise in 6.0 diesel matters, but I just went through a very frustrating 3 months of troubleshooting a very similar problem. I would be driving along and the truck would lose all power. Maybe 10 seconds later power would return and off we'd go. It was entirely random. sometimes happening once an hour, sometimes 5 times in 2 miles. I noticed that every time I'd lose power my Water in fuel light would come on. When it went off, I'd know power was restored
I found an old post on this forum, from 2006 with what sounded like exactly my problem. - Truck loses power, then power comes back.....and WIF light comes on briefly..
Spikebee, who identifies himself as a diesel tech said this in response to the post:
Quote: "both these problems sound typically symptomatic of wiring harness chafes and should be covered under the powertrain warranty. Most of the time a short due to chafing of the harness under the IDM causes the PCM to reset, it's like turning the key on and off real quick. The WIF light and Wait light come on when the PCM resets and if the accelerator pedal is depressed, it confuses the PCM so that you get no throttle response until you let it return all the way."
In my case, I ended up replacing the main engine wiring harness and the FICM harness and I think we finally got it. (fingers crossed).
Your mileage may vary.............
