Hello everyone just had a quick question about the head gaskets I’m putting on my truck before I do it. The coolant jackets for one of the ports is smaller on the new gasket compared to the old one. It’s a crate more so it had the felpro head gasket I choice a Cometic head gasket cause I was told they are a lot nicer and stronger. Is this an issue for cooling ? Not sure why they made the one port smaller the rest match with the Felpro one. Thanks for any information
The new head gasket is underneath the old one you can see how much smaller the holes are and how they are off set from the bigger ones They line up perfectly here And also line up perfectly here
I think I would run down to the store and order a felpro set. It may be ok but logic says it's not. I am not an expert on 351c/351m/400 engines. I do know they have a dry intake with no water going through it.

I was doing some thinking and I could be very wrong but could it possibly be to generate pressure in the back cylinders to produce more flow cause it’s the furthest from the water pump? I forgot to mention its that it’s the furthest lower water jacket on the block and head A smaller passage would generate more pressure meaning more flow for the rear cylinders. The head gasket is a 3 piece steel gasket so maybe it’s meant to withstand the pressure? Again I could be completely wrong but that makes some sense to me? Any idea if that could be the case?
Was this crate motor still under warranty and if so what now that you opened it up?
If not and was run with the Felt Pro gaskets then I would have left them in place.

it is under warranty but I’ve been fighting with the company for almost a year now and I need it fixed. It’s burning a lot of oil due to valve stem seals leaking a lot. I burned a quart every 500 miles ish. I’m getting the heads sent out to our machine shop we use and resealing the top end hence head gaskets. It’s a 82 f250 HD so factory no smog or anything so it was pretty easy to get ripped apart. Also has a Holley 2 barrel 500cfm carb. It ran great just burned oil. So no this on all in me no warranty anymore I’m sick of fighting and waiting I need the truck
I hear you on the fighting and just need it fixed.
I just did not want others to think they could go pulling apart a motor still under warranty and still have it covered.
Good luck on the fix being the heads and not oil rings put in wrong or not the right size.

While I do not know his situation and the reason for the oil usage in his engine, it surprised me how much oil can be lost through the valve stem seals. My 2.8 V6 in my BII was using a quart every 600 miles. They are famous for the valve seals going out, so I put some new ones in. The oil level on the dipstick does not drop any discernible amount at all now between 3000 mile oil changes, even though it does leak externally some.
