True Grade fuel pump

True Grade fuel pump

I have an external fuel pump for a 1989 ford e-350 econoline van that the positive and negative connections ars not marked. How do i tell which is which ?

If inlet and outlet are marked, hook it up to a battery to see which way it moves more volume. It might be a style of pump that’s polarity agnostic but I can’t picture it in my mind. I don’t expect pumping water for a couple of seconds will harm the pump. Maybe try Diesel or light oil. Quickie electrical connections and gasoline vapors aren’t a good idea.

You sure you can't see a dash mark on it "-" where the wires are, hate to dry test one?
