Which SD to buy?
Didn't need the 4:30's
Be aware - mine had 4,600 lb. CCC (They're heavy)
Top Speed limiter sucked
Engine rev's too high for a nice road trip
Any finally, the tire are way too hard when unloaded, and not safe to air down the rears due to bead design
Best looking truck I owned - so many compliments!
I've got a 2022 F-350 7.3, and my camper is about the same weight as yours. It pulls it really well, much better than my previous chevy with the 6.0 gasser.
Another big factor was my Northern Lite 10‑2 camper, which weighs around 3,500 lbs before adding water, propane, or any gear. I needed the payload. But after a few drives, I realized I still had to add things like Timbrens and StableLoads once the trailer was on. That pushed me toward trading the F‑350 for an F‑450 Platinum.
I’ve changed my order at least four times. First, I spec’d an F‑350 DRW with the 7.3L. The payload looked great—up to 6,500 lbs—but the gooseneck and fifth‑wheel towing numbers were disappointing. Then I tried an F‑350 with the 6.7L and the 4.3 rear end. The towing and payload were basically identical to an F‑450. After that, I decided to just go with the F‑450 for the turning radius and the stronger resale value.
And yes, I chose the Platinum because I’m going to daily‑drive it instead of my Tesla Model S (which I bought with unlimited lifetime charging). The reason is simple: I’m in logistics. When a customer calls, I don’t want to go pick up a truck—I want to say “I’ll be there,” hook up the trailer, and go. Since I’ll be spending a lot of time in it, it might as well be a Platinum.
All that to say: no judgment. People buy things for all kinds of reasons.
Thanks.
The cheaper the truck, usually the more problems it has. I would avoid any V-10 gas, 6.0 or 6.4 diesels. Also avoid any deleted trucks with tires sticking out three inches from the fenders with lights in the fenders and/or wheels being sold by an owner under 40 years of age bragging about rolling coal.
If you want to use it for years, check that it had service records for years. Good luck buying somebody else's problems.
